A Drift of Sock Pig's

Well, I have really been enjoying helping to run Lulubee's knit and stitch with the lovely Lucy of Lulubee, which we run every Thursday at the shop in Falmouth. If you fancy popping by we start at 6.30pm and we always make sure we have plenty of cake and tea! Here's a little peek at the sock pig workshop I did on Thursday, usually we bring along projects that we're doing, but me and Lucy like to do a little workshop every now and again.

My first Crocheted Creature

For my birthday I received an amazing craft book called 'Meet me at Mikes' by Pip Lincolne. The first project I have tackled is Morris the sensitive panda. I love him soooo much, especially as my pandas pink! Here's the original and my version is below.

This is an absolutely fabulous book, make sure you have a peek! x

A Brand New Chapter! Turning 30...

I turned 30 last week and I absolutely love it! I'm very excited about this new chapter in my life and can't wait to get started! The last few weeks before I turned 30, I began to get an urge to squeeze in as many new and exciting never tried before things, including posing for life drawing, learning the art of burlesque, learning how to crochet and giving blood for the first time! Also I actual put myself out there and styled vintage hair on 'real people'. I'm not sure what happened, but i'm determined to carry on in this manner, well for the rest of my life! So farewell 20's and thanks for the good times, but hello fabulous 30's and to a much more confident me!

Victory Rolls and Vintage Fun!

I had such a wonderful day on Saturday and managed to raise £40 for charity! I was a little nervous to start, but after my first customer, I styled hair for 5 hours non stop (well, there were a few cups of tea). So, I now feel quite confident in my styling skills and am going to continue to develop my skills! I have been searching for some more vintage hair books and can't wait to get trying out new styles! Here are a few pictures of some of the ladies I styled on Saturday.....

If you would like your hair styled please get in touch, I can do workshops or individual sessions.
Much Love

Birthday Wishes....

I really, really would love one of these! http://www.johnlewis.com/230962733/Product.aspx
Thank goodness I'm 30 next month and people want to buy me pretty things!

A Very, Vintage Photo Shoot prep.

I'm very busy at the moment, as have a couple of important engagements i'm preparing for, firstly is a vintage themed photo shoot on the 26th of June. Me and El (who I run Two Little Birds with) will be styling the whole shoot, so as I wanted to be extra prepared I put together these two mood boards. I have passed them on to hair, make up and photography and hopefully this will mean we've all got an Idea of what w're going to be up to! I can't wait, we are waiting to pick the models who will be the lucky winners of our bridal competition!

The other is the Lemon Popsicle fair on the 18th of June, madly practicing vintage hair on anyone who will let me at the moment!

I Hope you like them, love

Vintage Hair at Lemon Popsicle Fair

I am delighted to be attending the Lemon Popsicle Fair on Saturday the 18th of June, however I'm actually going to be selling more than my wares! I've volunteered to Jazz up the hair do's of the fabulous ladies of Falmouth, to raise money for Age Concern. I'm going to concentrate on 'Victory Rolls', a 40's vintage hair style, they look absolutely fabulous and are one of my favourite hair styles. I'm also going to do a little instruction sheet, which people can then take home and use to try the style out for themselves at home. So, I now need to get practicing before the big event! So if you fancy some curls from Miss Curly Pearl, send me a message at misscurlypearl@yahoo.co.uk or simply turn up on the day!

I did victory rolls in my hair for a Jumble sale I organised in March.

Timeless Beauty, Betty Grable with her fabulous, glamorous style! Great Hair do!

Posing as a Pin Up!

I am so pleased, I have finally got my hands on the photos of Dr Sketchy's last month. My friend runs the event locally in Falmouth (which is a mix of cabaret and life drawing) and as it was her last show (and shed had some drop outs) she persuaded me to do a bit of posing, so with my duster and iron at the ready I got up on stage and posed as a 50's housewife! I even managed to blag my boyfriend in to posing, but he would kill me if I posted the pic's, let's just say he consumed a lot of vodka and wore a hard hat and held a hammer, bless him! I really enjoyed it and was proud that we both actually got up there, I even got my red polka dot bikini top out! I luckily also managed to get a copy of one of the sketchers drawings (a very talented fashion student)- such fun, but think that's my modeling career over and done with! Back to the day job.

A St Ives Treat

Well, I haven't blogged for a week or so as I've had the most horrible cold! I'm sure there are quite a few of us out there who have been suffering, but luckily I'm starting to feel a bit more like my old self and I thought I'd get back on the blogging horse. It was my boyfriends mum's birthday on Monday, so off we went to St Ives for the day, one of my favourite places to visit in Cornwall (and luckily it was quite quiet!). We went for some yummy lunch an then took a visit to one of my favourite shops, Cath Kidston. I managed to find the cheapest thing in the shop, buttons!! There are sooo cute and I'm going to try and use them this month on a crafty project.

Even the bag they came in was really cute!

A Postcard I picked up from a Gallery, if you've been to / or live in Cornwall, then you would of experienced this! Well I feel a lot better for doing this little blog and will get my craft on soon, love Miss Curly Pearl x

London Sunshine

I have just gotten back back from a fabulous weekend in London. My boyfriend ran the marathon, which he did amazingly in (I managed to find him and cheer from the sidelines). The sun was shining and although I am completely exhausted now, we had a fab old time. I love going to London, although I'm too much of a Bumkin to ever dream of living there, it's a great adventure every now and again! So here are a few of my favourite, London in a nutshell pictures.

Travelling up on the Train.

Cheering Patch on, in front of the eye.

Natural History Museum: The Extinct land dwelling Sloth

Pretty Butterfly's at the Museum

Chinese at China Town

Cupcakes at Covent Garden.

I also managed to fit in a night out, a BBQ with friends, Ice cream in Leicester Square and some vintage shopping! Now for Easter and the Royal Wedding! Very Excited! xxx

Craft Challenge #2 - Scrap Booking

The knitting has gone well, not sure if I can count my first challenge as completed as I haven't finished, but I want to knit a really long scarf - so it may take me a while! But as you can see it's not a bad first attempt and i'm quite proud.

This month i'm really busy, so i'm setting myself a not too complicated task to do some scrap booking. I love digital cameras, don't get me wrong, but there is something fabulous about flicking through your pics - So i'm going to start a scrap book for this year, obviously this will be ongoing also - but my challenge is to get started and add a bit of flair to the pages!

Wish me luck, Love

Retro Romped

I have been a wee bit busy over the weekend, I headed up to Torquay for the marvelously amazing event that was Ruby Slippers Retro Romp. It was such a great weekend and I got to see the Flirtini's, Anna Fur Laxis and Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer - all for the first time! The Rainbow Hotel was an excellent venue, you literally felt like you had gone back in time (this may just be because it hadn't be done up in a fair few years, but it worked). I also am the proud new owner of a fruit themed 80's does 50's dress, which did belong to my friend Lorraine, but she was selling, so I was buying! I actually have matching pink pineapple earrings, which I will delight you with in a bit. This is a picture of all the acts, me on the left and Lorraine on the right managed to blag getting in to the picture! A bit stalker, groupie style but I don't care! Anna Fur Laxis was absolutely amazing, she just has it and she is also competing for Miss Exotic 2011 this year, so I wish her all the luck! If you have an opportunity see her or The Flirtini's or Mr B, make sure you do!

Me, Mr B, Ruby Demure from the Flirtini's, Anna Fur Laxis, Infinity Favour from The Flirtini's, Mrs B & Mark Bell aka Kinky & Quirky (organisers) and Lorraine.

Matching Pink Pineapple earring and dress - meant to be!

A fabulous print I picked up from a stall, can't wait to frame it.

So exciting, can't wait for the next one! Love

Changing Chairs

I recovered the seats of my dining room set a few months ago, however, my hairy cats had completely wrecked them! Luckily I usually only do half a job and hadn't bothered to screw the seats back in to place, so I used the couple of vintage pillow cases I had collected to easily cover the seats and pop them back into place! Now I can wash them whenever and keep changing them when I find new funky vintage designs.
Now, back to trying to finish off my March knitting project before Friday!

Raspberry & Blackberry Yummy Summer Cordial

Last week I went on a little shopping trip to Trago Mills, it's great for all sorts of random things (it's one of those places with loads of different departments). As well as lots of ribbon, a basket and some shampoo, I spotted this Tala cordial glass bottle. I absolutely adore it and it also came with a couple of recipe ideas, I tried one of them out and it was really easy and super tasty too - it would go great with a vintage picnic or you could add it to a bit of bubbly for a fruity cocktail! I think I'll be popping back to Trago to get my hands on a few more bottles, I think they would also make a really sweet home made gift.

I used Blackberries and Raspberries instead of Blackcurrants in my recipe
- I will get some better pics on when it's ready and I get to sample it!

Blackcurrant Cordial

Makes approx 1 Litre

400g / 13oz on blackcurrants
1 litre / 1.25 pints of water
300g / 10oz caster sugar

1. wash the fruit in water and then add the fruit, water and sugar into a heavy pan.
2. Bring to boil, then turn down and simmer and cook for 5 mins.
3. Pass the contents through a sieve, use the back of a spoon to push all the juice out.
4. Allow to cool, then bottle and place in fridge.

Have fun trying this out, love Miss Curly Pearl x

Setting up stall!

Hi all, the weather is absolutely glorious here in Falmouth today and I actually have a day off tomorrow, whoop! I have an extensive list of chores, some of which include; planting my strawberry seeds (I started all my other planting last Sunday), take my sewing machine to the sewing machine doctors and sort out the layout of my stall for April. I have two stalls coming up in April, I will be selling vintage from my shop Two Little Birds and some of my own crafts, the first is at Ruby Slippers Retro romp in Torquay from the 1st and then Vintage in a Teacup in St Agnes on the 23rd. So, I have had a few ideas for my stall, but have been looking for a bit of inspiration on how to make sure it looks fab! (my last stall looked a bit like a squat, no a good look!). The first thing I love is this double pink coat hanger that I found, perfect for hanging up scarves and jewellery.

and this cute Polka Dot cake stand could be a clever way of display my orchid hair clips.

I also noticed that Minky Magic has a very helpful blog on craft fair display ideas, just what I need! I love this stall by Lockette, I have a couple of vintage suitcases that might do the job!

Here's the stall that Ella (my business partner) put together for last years Falmouth week, now this is the high standard I have to try and compete with!

Any tips gratefully received, Love

Some Spring Inspiration

Managed to pick these flowers from my garden!

These polka dot cake cases were from Morrisons and only 99p.

These limited edition M & M's were in Sainsbury's  - can't resist pink sweets!

The Morning's are lighter, the Daffs are in the garden and i'm definitely feeling more inspired for life - sometimes winter really is a struggle!  Only problem is I'm currently having my garden demolished by a load of builders and their heavy machinery - They should be finished in a few weeks, but not great when they are all outside my window at 8.30am. Also my knitting has taken a little glitch, as Patch sat on my knitting needles and snapped them last night, will have to wait until the weekend until I can get to the shops and get a new pair  the same size. He did feel pretty bad, lesson learnt, do not leave knitting near his butt!

I have also joined the Monthly Make by The Felt Fairy (just to give me a bit more inspiration!), my first make was this paper bunting make from old children's books - they look so sweet and I recycled books that we couldn't sell at our fundraising events. May try and make a Stanley if I have time! He's sooo cute!
